Extremely disappointing experience. After visiting Varanasi regularly for the last 15 years in both summers and winters, I can confidently say this was the worst hotel stay I have ever had. The owner is polite and courteous, but unfortunately the staff completely ruin the experience. Their behavior was highly uncooperative and insensitive. We were three adults travelling with an infant, yet not a single staff member offered any assistance with our luggage. Instead, we were told to pull and carry all our bags ourselves, which was shocking and unacceptable for any hospitality establishment. The service standards are extremely poor. There was no kettle facility available in the room, which is a basic amenity nowadays. We were even asked to refill drinking water ourselves instead of being provided proper room service. The washroom was very small and inconvenient to use, especially for a family travelling with a baby. The bed was uncomfortably hard, making it difficult to get proper rest after a long day of travel. The rooms felt poorly maintained, the overall guest care was lacking, and there was little sense of hospitality from the staff. Simple requests were met with reluctance rather than willingness to help. As a guest, one expects at least basic courtesy and support, but that was missing throughout our stay. I have stayed at many hotels in Varanasi over the years, ranging from budget to premium properties, but this was by far the most disappointing experience. I would not recommend this hotel to families, elderly guests, or anyone expecting even basic hospitality and customer service. The management seriously needs to improve staff training and guest handling if they wish to maintain their reputation.

Perfect location. You can visit each and every place easily within 500m to 700m. Hygiene maintained perfectly and for drinking chilled water is also provided.

Butterfly Inn is for travelers who prioritize location and budget over comfort. You’re paying for the privilege of rolling out of bed and being at the ghats. The terrace is a nice spot to watch the city, and the room was clean, if bare-bones. If you want luxury, AC, and 24/7 service, look elsewhere. If you want to soak in Varanasi’s old city energy and don’t mind basic lodging, it does the job. Tip: Ask for a room facing away from the main road if you want slightly less noise. And download offline maps – the lanes around Agust Kunda get confusing. Would I stay again? For a 1-2 night ghat-focused trip, yes. For anything longer, I’d upgrade to Standard from Prime with daily housekeeping for hygiene and sanitation.
